Local Organizations

ONE DC – the people of ONE DC envision the nation’s capital as a place where low income, poor, and immigrant communities are organized, educated, and trained to take action to create and preserve social and economic equity. ONE DC’s organizing work centers on popular education, community organizing, and alternative economic development projects.

The Diverse City Fund – works to nurture community leaders and grassroots projects which are acting to transform DC into a more just, vibrant place to live. Through their grantmaking, they identify, support, and connect people in communities of color who are engaged in change work. They support the development of community-level social change by funding projects that have less access to traditional funding sources.

IMPACT Silver Spring – For over 17 years, IMPACT has been building community-based networks, and creating diverse community “spaces” where people and organizations can cross lines of difference, increase and strengthen social connections, bring forward their gifts, and take action collaboratively. They believe that with enough intentionality, compassion, and practice, a mixed income, mixed culture community can thrive.

NotJustSkin.org – supports positive human relationships through each phase of life, with special attention to pregnancy, childbirth, childhood, and parents.

Groundswell – a local non-profit, which organizes with communities to unlock shared economic power to reduce cost and increase access to clean energy. Their programs work with DC and Maryland community leaders to ensure that organizations and individuals, especially those in low-income communities, have access to clean energy by making it more affordable through a purchasing collective. Any one who pays an electricity bill can participate!

Birth Options Alliance – assists expectant women and families in the Capital area by providing evidence-based information about pregnancy, childbirth and parenting and advocating for accessibility of a full range of caregiver and birth location options.

Maryland Families for Safe Birth – works to ensure the health and wellbeing of Maryland families by expanding access to the evidence-based maternity care provided by Certified Professional Midwives.
